A sign to save us all

July 16, 2009 by Helena Halme 2 Comments

Ernest Hemingway said, ‘The most essential gift for a good writer is a built-in, shock-resistant shit detector.’

My sign is looking a little worn out now. I put it up above my screen in November 2007 after spending a weekend at Westminster College, London. Together with 200 or so other would-be writers, actors and optimists, I took part in Robert McKee’s Story Seminar. I would recommend the course to anyone who is interested in writing or telling a story in any form.

The sign I’d recommend to everyone. Just imagine how following this mantra would improve email communication across the world?

We should all be issued with one at birth; maybe then there would be no more polite conversation and an appropriately Finnish silence could be achieved at all times! PS Great blog
