I was born to wear denim

April 13, 2010 by Helena Halme 12 Comments

I just love this look. My denim shirt is not quite D&G, but still works well with my 7 for Mankind jeans, a tan belt and tan boots. In the summer I’m going to use the shirt as a beach cover up, just as I did 15 years or so ago…or perhaps team it with a jeans skirt (which I’m yet to acquire) and tan wedges.

Please don’t tell me I’m too old for this look. I will be devastated and never speak to you again…

That's a classic look that you can't go wrong with. The narrow hips help with the long, lean look so I have a feeling I could never QUITE duplicate it. I splurged on the boots though and they are worth every penny.

My teenagers have forbidden me to wear double denim in their presence! Soooo judgemental!

You are not too old, and neither am I – and I wish I could find that old Levi's denim shirt!

Isn't it awful that we women get to the age where we WANT to wear a particular look, but we worry that we're a bit too old and that we'll just appear ridiculous? And if we have daughters in their late teens or early twenties (which we do), they let us know in no uncertain terms when we cross that line into ridiculous territory! I don't know how to combat that, so I mostly wear what I want … mostly.

It is difficult isn't it? I'm of the opinion that if it feels right, go for it. The clothes are on your back no-one else's and if they don't like it they can look away!?

So I'm mostly wearing double denim this spring/summer…

    xx

You're definitely not too old! It's a great look, I love it. After saying I never wear jeans, I arrived at The Actor's house after being out all night at a party in a gold sequin dress and then had to spend Sunday evening and Monday in his Calvins, one of his shirts and pair of jeans and I actually liked it! xx

You would look great in anything. I like that look also, maybe because I wanted to be a cowgirl once. I would wear it.

You are no way too old to do this – you'll do it with your own style and look gorgeous! And I want that tan belt in the photo – simple and stunning! x

You are not. I want to wear dungarees this summer. Even if that means I'll go matchy-matchy with my one year old daughter. 🙂

Thank you for all your support. I don't know if it's the pending big birthday or what but I just don't care what people think any more, just as long as I feel great myself. Besides, it's sunny today. xx
